Doug Rhoten

Doug Rhoten is Chairman of ICAP Patent Brokerage.

Mr. Rhoten was Chief Executive Officer of ICAP Americas for 12 years, where his responsibility included all ICAP Americas voice brokerage activities, operational responsibility for the businesses located in the region comprising of 1,800 employees and $800 million in revenues.  At ICAP, his executive roles also included membership on the ICAP Group Global Management and Risk Committees as well as the Chairman of the Operating Committee of ICAP Americas.  He is also a past member of the ICAP Group Global Intellectual Property and Technology Governance Committees, and is a founding member of The Green Exchange.  

A graduate of St. Michael’s University, Mr. Rhoten began his ICAP experience at one of its predecessor companies 35 years ago as a money market and swaps broker in 1977. He moved into derivatives in 1985 and subsequently headed up the interest rate derivative division.  After 1999, Mr. Rhoten assumed increasingly greater senior management responsibilities and focused on a number of growth initiatives for ICAP including building and strengthening its equity, credit, energy, emerging markets, soft commodity and futures capabilities.  Most recently he expanded into brokerage of non-capital markets products such as media rights and patents.  Mr. Rhoten has been an active participant on a number of industry committees, including serving as a former member of the US Federal Reserve Bank Foreign Exchange Committee, the Chilean Products Exchange, the charity of New Heights Warriors, Cross Asset Software and CABEI boards.

Paul Greco
Senior Vice President

Paul V. Greco is a Senior Vice President in ICAP Patent Brokerage’s New York office, and heads up the high tech brokerage group for both the private and public brokerage platforms.  Mr. Greco has been a practicing attorney for 19 years, focusing on corporate finance, M&A, securities and intellectual property matters for businesses in the on-line, software development and consumer products industries.  In 2004 he founded and partnered in Sierchio Greco & Greco, LLP, a boutique securities law firm and venture capital practice. From 2001 through 2004 he was a principal in the law firm of Garvey Schubert Barer, a multi-jurisdictional, full-service firm.  Prior to this he co-founded and was a principal partner in Aieta & Greco, a securities, IP and venture capital boutique law firm located in the hub of New York’s Silicon Alley. Since 1999 and until 2012, Mr. Greco was a Director of AGB2 Inc., a privately held intellectual property development and holding company. He is also listed as an inventor on four issued U.S. patents.  Mr. Greco graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English from Boston College and received a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.  He is admitted to the New York, SDNY and EDNY bars.

Brad Close
Senior Sales Agent
Brad Close is the Senior Sales Agent at ICAP Patent Brokerage. He is responsible for identifying opportunities in the intellectual property space across multiple technology areas, helping clients understand their strategic technology position in the global arena, and moving deals from conception to closing. 
Mr. Close is an accomplished patent broker, having transacted patent sales since 2007 for a variety of clients, from international Fortune 500 companies to small Silicon Valley startups, with deals brokered in the U.S., Europe and Asia. He is a leading expert on buying, selling, valuing, and tailoring patent portfolios. He has been an invited speaker on topics such as patent brokering, deal making pitfalls and patent monetization, and has lectured on such topics at conferences in the US, Canada, Europe and China. Prior to moving into patent monetization, Mr. Close worked as a patent attorney in the areas of prosecution and licensing.
Mr. Close has a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Queen's University in Kingston, a Juris Doctorate, and a Masters of Intellectual Property from Franklin Pierce in New Hampshire, U.S.A. He is admitted to the bar in Virginia, Massachusetts, the District of Columbia, and a Registered Agent of the USPTO.
Mark Thomann
Trademark and Brand Broker

Mark Thomann is the Trademark and Brand Broker for ICAP Patent Brokerage.  Mr. Thomann brings to ICAP Patent Brokerage a long track record of successful monetization of brands and trademarks, as well as distressed business enterprises and their assets.  Mr. Thomann has established himself as one of the leading transactional IP experts and is also the Chief Executive Officer of River West Brands, a company that acquires, redevelops, and monetizes brands.

Mr. Thomann has over 15 years of experience valuing, structuring, and consummating complex financial transactions, involving trademarks/brands and other IP assets.

Mr. Thomann received a B.A. from the College of The Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Allen Berger
Commercialization Broker

Allen Berger is the Commercialization Broker for ICAP Patent Brokerage. Mr. Berger is a bottom-line oriented marketing executive with proven success in bringing products to market. He is experienced in all aspects of the marketing function, in both large organizations and start-ups. In the past, he served as VP of Marketing and Sales at major consumer products companies such as Nestle, Mars, and Gallo Wines. Prior to joining ICAP Patent Brokerage, Mr. Berger was Executive VP at Cirrus Healthcare and President of Bryan Berger Associates. He has successfully introduced many new products to the U.S. and foreign markets.

Brooke Dong
Consultant / Broker

Brooke Dong is a consultant for ICAP Patent Brokerage, located in Beijing, China. She is a venture technologist, experienced in innovation scouting, investment research, IP strategy/management, and technology incubation across various industries including TMT, green technology, automation and drive, and medical devices. Dr. Dong also serves as an advisor to China Technology Exchange. She received her PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Rochester.
