Lot Summary

This patent portfolio discloses techniques for computer-telephony integration. Various available applications enable placing a call from a computer to a regular telephone. The inventions eliminate the requirement for a user to manually enter a telephone number each time he wishes to initiate a call, or pick a telephone number from a structured list only available from the dialing application. The inventions recognize that phone numbers are frequently listed on web pages (e.g. Internet Yellow Pages), and can be detected automatically by telephony systems. The inventions also provide paid per call techniques with enhanced revenue opportunities for ad networks and new prospect generation and qualification avenues for advertisers.

Value Proposition: This portfolio discloses techniques for computer-telephony integration, including:
-      A conference call to among multiple parties can be initiated by a user by activating the telephone numbers displayed on the user’s computer. The displayed telephone numbers are automatically identified by the system, reducing the effort to manually input phone numbers.
-      Telephone numbers displayed on a webpage are detected and converted to clickable links. Therefore, the user can easily click a displayed phone number to initiate a call between the user and the third party (i.e. a merchant or an advertiser associated with the phone number). The disclosed technique enables paid sites or online directories (e.g., Internet Yellow Pages) to effectively use the benefits of the cost-per-click marketing model.

-      A telephone call is established between a user and a merchant based on the user’s request to a telephony server. Subsequently, the merchant is displayed a message including an offer to establish a telephone call with the user in exchange for payment of a predefined fee. When the merchant accepts the call, then phone call is initiated between the merchant and the user. Further, the merchant may be charged a fee for this service.
